Calcium β-Hydroxy-β-Methylbutyrate (Ca-HMB)
Calcium β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (Ca-HMB) is the calcium salt of β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB). HMB is naturally present in a variety of foods and is also a secondary metabolite produced during the metabolism of the essential amino acid leucine in the human body.
HMB plays a critical role in cellular signaling pathways involved in the regulation of muscle protein synthesis and degradation. It helps prevent or attenuate muscle loss, supports improvements in athletic performance, promotes increases in lean muscle mass, and contributes to overall health and physical function.
In China, calcium β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (CaHMB) was approved as a Novel Food Ingredient by the National Health Commission in Announcement No. 1 of 2011, with its approved application scope further expanded in 2017.
